Water Management

Water Management

  • GCL Technology emphasizes the sustainable utilization of water resources and the water footprint performance of its products. Based on periodic assessments of water resource risks at each production base, the company formulates targeted water management plans and goals. It actively carries out wastewater reuse and comprehensive water resource utilization, reviews goal completion annually, and strengthens source-water conservation.

    Water Risk Assessment

Leveraging the Water Risk Filter developed by the WWF, GCL Technology conducts an annual risk assessment of water resources at each base. Tailored water resource management strategies are then developed for different risk levels based on the assessment resuts. In 2024,we completed a comprehensive water risk assessment for 14 locations (13 production bases 1 Administrative Management Center, covering basin reputational risk, basin physical risk, and basin regulatory risk to ensure that waterresource risks are controlled.

Water Risk Types & Corresponding Operating Locations

  • Water Risk Management Measures

We conduct an in-depth analysis of the water resource conditions and various water risks at each operating location, formulate targeted water resource management strategies to mitigate water risks and ensure the sustainable utilization of water resources.

    Industrial Silicon

In Inner Mongolia Xinyuan, the discharge from waste heatboilers is cooled in a pool, collected, and stored in the rainwatersystem for reuse as a refill for cooling towers. The dischargefrom cooling towers is prioritized for use in silicon washing, withany surplus sent to granular silicon for wastewater treatment. The annual water savings amount to 17.099 tonnes for silicon washing.

    Polysilicon

In Leshan GCL, a project was launched to optimize circulating waterdevices. The refill waterrequired was reduced from 171 m3/h to 137m3/h after optimization, saving approximately 34 m3/h of water. The annual water savings amount to 199,104 tonnes.

In Inner Mongolia Xinhuan, energy-saving modifications tomechanical sealwater, steam condensate recovery, and sewagetreatmentprojects were introduced to save water across productionand operations. The mechanical seal water energy-saving project resulted inan annual savings of 35,040 tonnes of water. The steam condensate recovery project saved 648 m3 ofsecondary desalinated water annually. The sewage treatment project saved 45,900 tonnes of waterannually.

    Wafer

In Xuzhou Photovoltaic, the use of recycled water was expandedto reduce surface water extraction. Cooling tower wastewater isrecycled to reduce fresh water usage and wastewater discharge. The utilization of recycled water increased from 73.62% to 83.03%. Cooling tower water recovery totaled 632,800 tonnes, with anannual water saving of 106.87 million tonnes.

In Suzhou GCL, filtr were modified and optimized to effectively reduce coolant ate direct supply systems for workshops usage in slurry systems. Each slicing machine saved 1.6 tonnes of purified water, amounting to an annual savings of 5,840 tonnes.

In Ningxia GCL Monocr water around the plant was optimized to use treated wastewater for ystalline, the supply system for landscaping irrigation instead of fresh water. This resulted in an annual saving of 8,827 tonnes of fresh water for irrigation.

    Perovskite

During the construction of the perovskite project, provisions were made for air conditioning condensate pipelines and collection tanks. In summer, the collected condensate water is routed to the chiller cooling towers, thus reducing tap water usage and lowering water temperatures. 30,240 tonnes of condensate water is saved annually.
