14.2756! GCL Technology’s Baotou Base Sets New Industry Low in Granular Silicon Carbon Footprint
Recently, Inner Mongolia Xinyuan Silicon Materials Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of GCL Technology (Baotou base), received a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Verification Statement issued by the British Standards Institution (BSI), an internationally recognized certification body. According to the verification results, the carbon footprint of the Company’s granular silicon product from “cradle to gate” is only 14.2756 kg CO₂e/kg, significantly lower than the industry average and setting a new benchmark for low-carbon production in silicon-based materials.
The carbon footprint assessment was conducted in strict accordance with international standards ISO 14040, ISO 14044 and ISO 14067, covering a systematic quantification and independent verification of the entire life cycle from raw material acquisition to product delivery. The results demonstrate that through continuous technological optimization and the application of clean energy, GCL Technology has successfully maintained carbon emissions from its production processes at a leading level within the industry.
As a key upstream materials production base in the photovoltaic industry chain, GCL Technology has continuously advanced low-carbon innovation across its entire manufacturing process. Through precise process optimization, intelligent equipment upgrades and efficient energy configuration, the Company has established a comprehensive green management system spanning the full “cradle-to-gate” life cycle. These efforts have enabled a breakthrough reduction in carbon footprint, significantly outperforming industry averages and raising the benchmark for low-carbon granular silicon production—thereby supporting the green development and carbon-neutral transition of the photovoltaic industry at its source.
It is reported that GCL Technology has now obtained authoritative carbon footprint certifications from China, France and Germany. According to previously released data from the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME), the carbon footprint of granular silicon produced at the Baotou base was measured at 14.441 kg CO₂e/kg. Based on GCL Technology’s effective annual granular silicon capacity of 480,000 tons, this translates into annual electricity savings of approximately 19.5 billion kWh compared with conventional rod silicon, equivalent to a reduction of about 10.48 million tons of CO₂ emissions.
A company representative stated that this breakthrough in carbon footprint performance is a direct result of GCL Technology’s long-term commitment to technological innovation, energy-efficiency improvement and the integration of circular economy principles. Looking ahead, the Company will continue to increase investment in green technology R&D, promote coordinated carbon reduction across the entire value chain, and serve as an enabler and creator of green value—supporting customers and partners in achieving their carbon-neutrality goals.
