The People's Daily Focused Again on GCL's Granular Silicon Being the Carbon Reduction Booster to Welcome the 20th CPC National Congress!
As the Xuzhou 60,000-ton and Leshan 100,000-ton projects were put into production and the construction for the three 100,000-ton projects in Baotou, Hohhot, and Wuhai started, GCL has been a frequent topic in authoritative, financial, and professional media. Moreover, the People's Daily once again focused on GCL-FBR granular silicon in its special report series to welcome the 20th CPC National Congress.
On September 28, the People's Daily focused on the innovation and development of China's photovoltaic industry with the title "China's Photovoltaic Industry Has Achieved Leap-Forward Development" on the full page of the industry and economy section (also introduced on the cover page). In the context of "peak carbon emissions" and "carbon neutrality", GCL-FBR granular silicon has attracted the People's Daily's attention again due to its unique advantages such as "high technology, high quality, low cost, and low carbon emission".
The article reported in detail the achievements of GCL TECH in leading the technological upgrading of the photovoltaic industry and promoting the development of clean energy. Meanwhile, the article also fully affirmed the "low-carbon and high-efficiency" futuristic technology of FBR granular silicon, which is not only cost-effective in the era of cheap Internet access but also more in line with the policy requirements of reducing carbon emissions than rod silicon.
It is mentioned in the article that "the volume of granular silicon is relatively small with strong fluidity, and there is no need to crush it, thus eliminating the risk of introducing impurities; 15%–20% more material can be fed into the feeding barrel to avoid issues such as blockages caused by large pieces." Lan Tianshi, Co-CEO of GCL TECH, told reporters that compared with the widely used rod silicon at present, the production of granular silicon consumes less power, and the use of granular silicon to produce 1 GW of modules can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 19%, which helps reduce the costs of application by about 19%.
Scientific and technological innovation is the core competitiveness to promote the eco-friendly development of the enterprise. The article also fully affirmed GCL TECH's continuous high investment in technology research and development. "We have invested more than RMB 2 billion from the beginning of the granular silicon R&D in 2010 to the industrialization in 2019," said Jiang Limin, Chief Scientist of GCL TECH. Granular silicon and rod silicon are two product forms of polysilicon. Insisting on technological innovation for over a decade, China has increased its self-sufficiency rate of polysilicon from about 47% to over 80%.
At present, GCL TECH has obtained several long-term silicon material procurement orders of tens of billions from multiple leading photovoltaic companies such as Shuangliang Eco-Energy, Longji, Zhonghuan, JA Solar, Shangji Automation, and Akcome Science and Technology, with nearly 800,000 tons of order capacity in hand. "Currently, some upstream and downstream enterprises are establishing long-term cooperation mechanisms by signing long-term orders, technical cooperation, mutual equity participation, and other methods to clarify volume and price and stabilize expectations," introduced Xu Zhenyu, Assistant Vice President of GCL TECH's Silicon Material Division.
This is not the first time that the People's Daily paid attention to GCL-FBR granular silicon. In 2020, the People's Daily focused on the R&D innovation case of GCL-FBR granular silicon with the title "Wind Power and Photovoltaic Industry Expect More Power". In July 2022, the special issue for welcoming the 20th CPC National Congress "Strive Forward in the New Journey Towards the New Era—An Extraordinary Decade" of the People's Daily focused on Jiangsu Province and published the article "Jiangsu: Striving to Build a 'Strong, Rich, Beautiful, and Advanced' New Jiangsu", which began with the successful R&D innovation case of GCL-FBR granular silicon.
The FBR granular silicon once again drew the attention of the People's Daily, indicating that granular silicon has become an important part of promoting the low-carbon revolution in the photovoltaic industry.
Since its debut, GCL-FBR granular silicon has received extensive attention from authoritative media and official platforms. Authoritative media such as the People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, Economic Daily, Science and Technology Daily, China Energy News, Economic Information Daily, China Securities Journal, Shanghai Securities News, Securities Times, and Securities Daily have all carried out special reports on it. The official WeChat account and the official website of the National Energy Administration have reproduced the reports twice, presenting the hard-core strength of GCL-FBR granular silicon and its futuristic technology in a multi-dimensional and comprehensive perspective in the era of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
Recently, the first phase of GCL Dongli's project officially started in Wuhai, Inner Mongolia with an annual production goal of 100,000-ton granular silicon and 150,000-ton nano-silicon. This is GCL TECH's fifth granular silicon production base after Xuzhou, Leshan, Baotou, and Hohhot. For the moment, the production capacity of GCL TECH's FBR granular silicon in operation and under construction has reached 700,000 tons.
In the future, GCL TECH will continue to invest in technological innovation and R&D to empower China's energy structure transformation with eco-friendly and high-quality development by providing a steady stream of GCL power for entering the era of "zero carbon".
